I had the privilege of organizing the first-ever LASIK course held in the United States. Despite the initial skepticism from the world’s top 25 corneal surgeons, who neglected to mention the word “LASIK” in 64 presentations over a two-day period, I was determined to shed light on the benefits of this innovative procedure. Through my compelling arguments and persuasive approach, I was able to change their perspectives and convince them that LASIK was the way forward.
I also contributed to the advancement of LASIK knowledge by authoring a book on the course, which included groundbreaking textbook chapters on myopic and hyperopic LASIK. Today, LASIK continues to thrive as one of the most commonly performed surgeries in the United States, with over 700,000 procedures carried out each year. The success of LASIK is a testament to my unwavering dedication to promoting and advancing this life-changing technology.
