PTSD: Therapeutic Potential of Cannabis, Cannabidiol
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating condition that can impact all aspects of life. However, marijuana may offer some hope for those struggling with this condition. Patients have reported that marijuana helps to diminish or eliminate the unpleasant memories associated with PTSD, providing a welcome respite from the distress. The ability to sleep and the elimination of night terrors are also highly valued benefits, as attested by thousands of patients.
With a growing interest in the use of cannabis and its extracts, as well as CBD oil, there is reason to believe that cannabinoids may be efficacious in treating a range of different diseases and syndromes. However, the objective data supporting the use of crude materials such as CBD oil, cannabis extracts, and cannabis itself is limited.
In this review, we examined the data for pure cannabinoid compounds, including dronabinol, nabilone, and CBD, as well as partially purified medicinal cannabis extracts like nabiximols. Our aim is to provide guidance on the potential therapeutic uses of high-THC cannabis and CBD oil. The data supports the use of cannabis/cannabinoids in treating pain, seizure disorders, appetite stimulation, muscle spasticity, and nausea/vomiting. In addition, given the biological activities of the cannabinoids, there may be utility in treating central nervous system disorders such as neurodegenerative diseases, PTSD, and addiction, as well as in cancer treatment. However, the data in these areas are much less compelling.
In conclusion, there are compelling reasons to support the potential use of medical cannabis and cannabis extract, including Δ9-THC-dominant or CBD-dominant forms, in the treatment of various conditions, including PTSD. However, much more research is required to fully understand their therapeutic potential. With continued research and analysis of available data, we can make informed decisions about the use of cannabis/cannabinoids in the treatment of different ailments.
Medical Marijuana
Safe & Legal
Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to breaking conventions and helping those in need. My passion for medicine began during my time working in refugee camps in Thailand, and since then, I have made it my mission to provide care and support to those who need it most.
As a pioneer in the field of ophthalmology, I have made numerous contributions and innovations in the field of corneal transplantation and laser surgery. I am comfortable challenging conventions.
I have seen firsthand the positive impact medical marijuana can have on patients struggling with pain and anxiety.
My experiences have shown me that medical marijuana can offer significant benefits with minimal side effects, providing patients with an alternative to traditional pharmaceutical medications. Despite its potential, the government’s stance on marijuana is outdated and in need of revision.
Through my observations, I have seen prescription rates for pain, stress, insomnia, anxiety to name just a few, drastically decrease among patients who have obtained a medical marijuana card, and I believe that this is a testament to its effectiveness.
